The Ajax list has become so popular so quickly that we
thought it a good idea to give information about the list via
the Web. This information is divided into three sections:
We assume that you will read all sections before
applying to the list.
What is the list?
The list is for Ajax fans accross the world who want to
discuss their team on a regular basis. The list is not for fans
of other teams who want to promote their team and get at Ajax.
Fans of other teams are kindly requested to join or set up their
own list. Misbehaviour of members will result in their removal
from the Ajax list and registration on the Dutch list owners blacklist.
This doesn't sound very friendly we know, however experience has
pointed out that there are always a few boring people out there
making life annoying for the rest of us.
How does the list work?
OK, we know this is the really boring bit. Then again, if you
want to join the list then surely you can spare the required 5
minutes to read this section. If you can't spare the time... then
please don't apply to join the list.
Why have rules?
When the list was set up there was a membership explosion.
This resulted in emails left right and centre, most of which didn't
exactly comply with netiquette standards (that's an understatement
if ever there was one). An introduction text was therefore introduced
for new members. However experience taught us that most members
got rid of the introduction text the moment they received it.
Not very useful. At the same time real serious Ajax fans started
unsubscribing (aaaghhh). Hence this list page.
| 1. | Messages should be Ajax related. | |
2.
| Please don't flame contributors. Remember that the list was set up for fun. Please try and cool off before replying to someone who really makes you mad. Try using decaf...;-) | |
| 3. | When replying to a message please summarize the original message. We've all received the original message so it is easy to refer to rather than sending it to everyone again. It's really annoying to see a long message again and again with people adding one-liners such as "I agree". | |
| 4. | Always put Ajax in the subject line. This makes mail-filtering possible.
Example: Ajax - when will it all end? | |
| 5. | People who really need to write in Dutch should put (Ajax.nl) in the subject. Example: Ajax.nl - kan ik met iemand naar de wedstrijd meerijden? | |
| 6. | English is the standard language used. This is so that all non-Dutch speaking fans can participate fully. | |
| 7. | Only one reply message per person per day. Tip: use one message to reply to different original messages. | |
8.
| Do not put results (or clues with respect to the result) in the subject lines. There are fans out there who videotape games and do not want to know the score in advance. | |
9.
| Make sure your software's mail-confirmation-setting is set to off. If you don't, all list members (>550 people) will read about how you read someone's mail. Not very interesting ;-) This feature is found in Pegasus© mail but some other programs are known to use the same irritating switch. TURN IT OFF! | |
| 10. | Make sure the messages are interesting for everyone. If not, please use private mail instead. | |
OK, so you've read the rules and you want to join (or quit) the list.
